On the 28th of July MHVF, supported by the US Embassy, conducted a behaviour change workshop in the suko of Metagou, Luquica.
Designed to challenge rigid gender roles and promote gender equity within the community, the program enlisted the men of Metagou to participate in a ‘Master Chef’ style cook-off. Over thirty men from the local community took part in competition, publically demonstrating their commitment to ending violence against women and becoming positive role models for the children of Metagou.
Representatives from the US Embassy, SEM, the Asia Foundation, Caritas Australia, the Municipal Adiminstator of the Luquica, and PNLT judged the event and witnessed the participating men pledge to never commit or condone violence against women.
The Chefe Suko, an on-going supporter of MHVF, announced that the organisation’s work in Metagou has had positive and sustained effects on the reduction of gendered violence in the community. He stated that ending violence against women is not a ‘family issue’; everyone has a responsibility to ensure women, and children live free from abuse.
